Southeast Asia has always been in discussion for temples with very similar characteristics to Indian temples. Temples, an Indian concept of god's abode, have historically travelled across the globe. People from various ancient societies adopted and absorbed this concept into their local traditions and the cultural assimilation resulted in various styles of temples. The journey of temples, especially from an early single-unit structure to large temples and temple towns and from India to southeast Asia, is fascinating. This gradual development represents the political, social, cultural, economic and religious systems of the era gone by. Samrachanā-HCRI is organizing a 5-day Online Certificate Course titled “India Outside India: Journey of Temples from India to Cambodia". It will focus on the systematic understanding of the development of temples in India and their influence on the most prominent ancient kingdom of Cambodia in Southeast Asia.

Brief about the Seminar: Timeless Temples- Introduction to India's ancient marvels!
Temples in India are not just places of worship but also living symbols of the country's rich cultural heritage and architectural grandeur. These ancient temples, from the majestic Brihadeeswara Temple in Tamil Nadu to the intricate Sun Temple in Odisha, reflect the era's devotion, artistry, and creativity.
The structure of a temple is an important step before taking the darshan of the deity in the garbhgriha. It helps align the thoughts of the devotee with the immense underlying information. However, most Indians visit the temples without being aware of the temple itself. Very few are interested in looking at the temple and its surroundings. Ancient temples are institutions in itself, they educate people for many aspects of life. Temples have their expression; each temple element has a vocabulary and regional variety. If the temple is visited with complete awareness, it will surely add to the experiences of the devotees.
This 2-day seminar will decode the concepts & meaning behind the temples to develop a better understanding of the temples, sculptures and stories on the temple for their socio-cultural relevance. It will also give an overview of the parts of the temples and a few temples which every Indian should visit in their lifetime.
